What Award Judges Actually look for in Customer Experience

Every organisation wants to be customer-centric. Fewer can prove what that means in practice.

For award judges, a strong customer experience story isn’t built from words such as seamless, innovative, exceptional or world-class. It is built from evidence that shows a customer problem existed, something meaningful changed, and customers experienced a measurable benefit as a result.

Customers have a choice

This matters commercially as well as competitively. Invoca’s 2026 UK research found that 79% of consumers would switch to a competitor that responds faster. MaxContact’s 2025 study found that 42% had already switched provider because of poor contact-centre experiences.

So CX isn’t only an internal performance discipline. It influences whether customers stay, leave, recommend and, in many categories, which brand they choose in the first place.

Judges need a before and an after

A common weak entry explains the project in detail but leaves the judge doing the work of figuring out whether it succeeded.

A stronger story makes the movement obvious: What was happening before? Why did it matter? What did you change? What became better? How do you know?

That could mean satisfaction improved, repeat contacts fell, complaint resolution accelerated, retention increased, vulnerable customers received better outcomes, employees became more capable, or technology removed friction without removing the human support customers still needed.

The metric is only useful when it proves the story

A page of KPIs is not automatically persuasive. The strongest evidence is selected because it answers the judging criteria and proves the impact claimed.

If your story is about reducing customer effort, show effort, repeat contact or journey completion. If it is about service recovery, show complaint outcomes and customer feedback. If it is about contact-centre transformation, connect operational improvement to the customer and colleague experience.

People belong in the CX story

Customer experience is delivered by people, even when technology is involved. Strong entries show how colleagues were engaged, trained, listened to and enabled — and what changed for them as well as for customers.

Independent recognition makes the evidence visible

Customers cannot see your internal dashboards. But they can see external recognition, ratings, reviews and credible third-party validation.

That is why the right award can become more than a celebration. It can become a proof point: evidence that somebody outside your organisation has examined the story and recognised the achievement.

Could you already have a winning CX story?

Start with one achievement from the last 12–24 months and map it as:

Challenge → Action → Evidence → Impact

If you can make each part specific and measurable, you may have the foundations of a strong entry.

Our free Customer Experience & Contact Centre Recognition Toolkit 2027 includes the evidence checklist, current award opportunities and Customer Choice Proof Audit to help you assess that.
